Sports Teams in Reno Tahoe

The crack of the bat, the swish of the net, a hole-in-one, the touchdown celebration in the endzone, Reno Tahoe offers plenty of thrilling professional, collegiate or individual sports action and exciting outdoor recreation.

Baseball

The Reno Aces are a minor league baseball franchise; the team is a member of the Pacific Coast League and is the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Owned by SK Baseball, the Aces are a part of the Pacific Conference's South Division along with the Fresno Grizzlies, Las Vegas 51s, and Sacramento River Cats. Aces Ballpark, a new 9,100-capacity venue constructed for the team, opened in Spring 2009 in the heart of downtown Reno. The stadium is part of the Freight House District, an exciting year-round entertainment complex that offers unparalleled retail, dining, and nightlife options.

The Reno Astros season is a semi-pro team, which season lasts from May to September. The team plays around the west and is one of six teams invited to play at the 2009 World Baseball Challenge in Prince George, B.C., Canada. Home games are played at Moana Stadium, just west of S. Virginia Street on Moana Lane.

Basketball

The Reno Bighorns are a NBA Development League team affiliated with the Sacramento Kings and the Orlando Magic. Owned by SK Baseball, the owners of Minor League Baseball’s Reno Aces, the team plays at the Events Center in the heart of downtown Reno, from late November through early April.

Golf

The Reno-Tahoe Open is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour. Founded in 1999, it is played annually in August. The tournament is held at the Montrêux Golf and Country Club, located midway between Reno and Lake Tahoe. The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1997; its average elevation is 5,600' above sea level.

The American Century Celebrity Golf Classic is the premier celebrity golf tournament on the Celebrity Players Tour. It is traditionally held during the second full week of July at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nevada, on the shores of Lake Tahoe.

College

The University of Nevada has a long and storied athletics tradition. Though often known as UNR within the state, the university prefers to be called simply Nevada for athletics purposes; its sports teams are nicknamed the Wolf Pack. They participate in the NCAA's Division I (FBS for football) and in the Western Athletic Conference.
